CHAPTER FIFTEEN

It’s been three days since Gerry called me and I still haven’t heard from Raven. Despite jacking off in the shower to the image of her bent over every morning, I’ve been able to keep her from infiltrating my mind every single damn second. Throwing shade at me on her show got to me. So much that I bought a book from Amazon in the name of research that will ruin my street cred if it ever gets out.

I’m pretty sure the ESPN people are counting on me to tell her, but I dread the confrontation. Don’t women know that men will do just about anything to avoid it? Especially when we know it’s not our fault, but the woman is still going to expect us to apologize like some kind of pussy-whipped lame duck. I’m all about apologizing when I’ve done something wrong. In this case, my mind can’t keep up with a single thing I’ve done to her outside of trying to make her happy.

I don’t feel like showing up at her doorstep and have her look me up and down like I’m some kind of loser that she regrets because what we did was the sexual fuck up of the century.

As I pull said book up on my Kindle app, I glance at its advice. I look over at Tugboat and he’s blocking the door. “What? You don’t want me going out?” He shakes his head in protest and jumps on me, pushing against me with that wet doggy nose. After stowing my phone, every word imprinted on my brain, I stroke both of his ears with my fingers and reach for the door handle, but he blocks me again. “You don’t want me going over to Raven’s, do you?”

It’s like he’s sending me mental telepathy saying, Medusa’s a bitch and so is her stick-up-the-ass owner.

He shakes his head again, more frantically this time. Maybe he just wants me to stick around and pet him. “Come on, Tugboat. I promise I’m not going over to Raven’s right now… I’m just going to get the paper.” Finally, he lands on all fours and runs back inside. I grab my keys and go outside for a jog to the mailbox, then my phone starts ringing. “Gerry, hey. What’s up?”

“I have one question for you. How is it that even after my last lecture, you haven’t gotten Raven on board for the ESPN guys?” he asks me.

“I, I don’t know.” I hesitate because he’s right. I thought I was on board. “It’s just that I haven’t fully thought it out yet.”

“Thought it out? What’s there to think about? Deuce, this is an opportunity of a lifetime. You’re quite lucky that this whole Man Crush Monday thing didn’t catch on… or it did, just not in the way we thought it would. Now, what’s stopping you? It’s fucking ESPN, you dipshit.”

I cringe and keep my eyes pressed shut. “Nothing. Nothing is stopping me.”

“Damn right. I don’t know if this has
